Year of establishment: 1979The Department of Kannada came into existence in 1979. Since it was established, it has a rich in teaching and learning. The department has the qualified enthusiastic teachers who have extended their knowledge to the young readers. We also qualify Optional Kannada students to become future scholars in Kannada. Along with the curriculum, the department has organized seminars and workshops to create literary awareness and knowledge about ancient and recent writers and critics. The department has organized remedial classes to improve the slow learners. Classroom seminars are conducted regularly to prepare the students for higher studies and competitive exams. The department also extends other activities for quality learning for students like field visit, projects ‘Special Guest Lectures’ and some more activities to enrich students.

1.    Poojya Siddeshwar Shrigalige Kavya & Geeta naman karyakram on 12-08-2023 was organised by Dept of Kannada collaboration with Kannada Sahitya Parishattu Taluka ghataka, Indi. For the Chief Guest of Dr. Ravi Arali. Assistant professor Dept of political science Govt first grade college Zalaki.

2.    Celebration of Vishwa Manav divas Regarding Birth anniversary of Rashtra Kavi Kuvempu on 29-12-2022 was organised by Dept of Kannada. For the chief Guest of Shri. Kashinath, Lecturer Dept of Kannada S.S.V.V Sangh’s Arts & Commerce Darbar college Vijayapura.

3.    Field visited to The great poet Madhura Channa’s Village Halasangi, By the Dept of Kannada all B.A 2nd,4th & 6th Sem students 

4.    Essay 0Competition on ‘BASAVANNANAVAR VACHANAGALALLI BHAKTAN NILUVU’ Regarding Hunnime Belaku Programme Organised by the Dept of Kannada collaboration with Shri.Basavarajendra Satsang Samiti, Indi. In this competition All B.A,B.COM & B.SC Students participated.

5.    126th Birth anniversary of Vara Kavi D.R. Bendre -2022 was organised by the Department of Kannada on 31-01-2022 for the Chief Guest of lecturer Shri.Sadaananda.S. Iranakeri Dept of Kannada & District Chairman of Karnataka Janapada parishattu, Vijayapura. 

6.    Special lecture on IMPORTANCE OF KANNADA IN NEP-2020 on 07-08-2020. For the Chief Guest of Dr. Basavaraj Salawadagi Assistant professor Dep of Kannada, BLDEA’S New Arts College Tikota.

Ancient Kannada Literary History

The present paper aims to convince the students about the basis of early literary forms of Kannada, inculcate in them the ancient knowledge and uniqueness of Kannada. The original intention of this paper is to discuss the urgent needs of the literature of the period, not only in terms of inscriptions and literature of the early period. Through this, the purpose of the paper is to inform the students about the life of the Kannadigas as expressed by the Kannada language and connect the contemporary knowledge they have formed with the imperatives and convince them of the possibilities of finding a solution to the contemporary challenges.

The talent of the Kannadigas in the medieval context has been expressed in a variety of historical settings and in many experimental roles. The medieval Kannada intellectuals channelled their thoughts through new genres. Literature on this occasion led to significant turning points in human history. Among them, mainly vachana, ragale, pattadi sangatya, tripadi and kirtana forms became the medium of expression here. Bhakti movement, heroic poems, sacrificial harmonies needed for Atmajyoti poetry expressed the wishes of equality of world consciousness. Here to the crises of the contemporary context. Report: Prof.S.G.Sannakki,Dept. Kannada engaged a special lecture on Kannada Sahitya Charitre. Sir has delivered very enlightening on the very geniuses of kannadaSahitya and the glory of kannada literature. Sir has quoted numerous examples right from ‘Hale Kannada’ and very precisely sited many vachanaes and sayings from eminent kannada poet. Overall sir’s talk gave new horizons to explore ‘Kannada SahityaCharitre.’ Sir has equally applied the anicient kannada literature with the present scenario.Shri.S S Hiremath did the Honours of hosting the session overall 70 Students and Faculty members presented in the programme.
